The standard applies to metal parts made by cutting, or parts made by shaping from sheet metal, and establishes general tolerances for linear and angular dimensions, if these tolerances are not indicated directly at the nominal dimensions. General tolerances on the standard can also be applied to non-metallic parts and parts processed by methods other than cutting or forming from sheet material, if they are not provided by other standards and are suitable for the specified parts.
